Botox
Botox, also known as Clostridium Botulinum toxin, is injected in small doses into specific muscles. It is injected directly into the muscles, and it works by blocking the signals between the nerves and the injected muscles, thereby reducing the activity of muscles (through temporary paralysis) which is responsible for wrinkles and lines. Botox works only on the muscles it is injected into, with surrounding muscles functioning as usual. Normal facial expression is retained, just with less wrinkles. The pain involved in Botox treatment is minimal, and no anesthesia is required, so the patient may return to usual activities right away.
Lines and wrinkles smoothing injections will usually take about 15 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated. Results following treatment will take from 2-3 days to become visible, and the full effect will come in 14 days at the minimum. The Botox therapy is out used to smooth down lines between the brows, forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines between the eyes. The effect of Botox treatment lasts for about 6 months, depending on the patient. The treatment can be repeated several times.
Effects of each consecutive Botox treatment will last longer, so the time stretches between treatments also get longer with the number of treatments.
Side effects - the most common undesirable side effects include tenderness and bruises around the place where Botox was injected. Sometimes Botox affects also the surrounding muscles, making them work less efficiently, however this condition passes with time. Seldom a reversible eye lid droop disorder occurs, lasting for a week or two. Directly after the treatment you may suffer from a short headache.
Precautions
The patient should not bend or lie down for four hours after the treatment, and should not use sauna or go swimming for a week.
